Oppose I understand the idea, but the result is not pleasant to my eyes. Two reasons: the dull colors of the structure and the ugly foreground. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 22:45, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Alvesgaspar, thank you for you interest, The special feature in this photo is the bridge's unusual shape, with its steep incline on the left; this incline allows the bridge to withstand and support the thousands of cars and heavy trucks that cross it daily. The location is a canal that connects the southern lake to the sea and is also used by the power plant for cooling the reactors. I also slightly increased the contrast and clarity in the new version. Oppose Sorry, this looked great in thumbnail and I was preparing to support, but at full size it is not very sharp, there are some even blurrier transitions between poorly stitched frames, and I'm not convinced the horizon is straight - it looks like the picture is sloping downwards towards the right. Cmao20 (talk) 18:22, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
Neutral Thank you, Arion, for nomination of my upload. But I agree with Cmao20. Probably severe denoising from ISO 10000 resulted in loss of detail. Very sad because I very like the composition. Юрий Д.К. 21:30, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Info (Changing from a Delist and Replace to a Set Nomination per discussion here)
Images of the 1919 painting Gassed by John Singer Sargent before and after a major restoration in 2023. The restoration removed several layers of yellowed varnish, revealing the original colors and drastically changing art historians' interpretations of the work. The first image is from 2012 and is already a featured picture. The post-restoration image was captured by the museum over the course of a week using specialized high-resolution photography.(article about the restoration) (info and video about the restoration from the museum) created by Surajr7 – uploaded by Surajr7 – nominated by Surajr7 -- Surajr7 (talk) 23:37, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Question I don't really understand the sets, so I'll ask why not a full panorama instead? I imagine the bay was very large?. Thanks for answer --Wilfredor (talk) 14:23, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment I'm not sure I feel strongly enough on this one to vote either way. It's sharp and good quality with a nice composition, but quite small for FP. However, I think if you have other FPs of the same species as Charles notes, it would probably be the right thing to do to inform us of them when making the nomination. That's definitely relevant information for voters. Cmao20 (talk) 18:15, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Support The top-right poppy mentioned by GRDN711 is a minor distraction, but it doesn't reduce the image's appeal for me. The wonderfully natural abundance of flowers is exactly what makes this composition so convincing. -- Radomianin (talk) 22:27, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Info A risky nomination. In my opinion the shadows add depth to the image and make it more interesting, providing a sort of framing device that draws the eye towards the castle tower, but I will absolutely understand if people oppose for that reason. Comment Interesting place and the shadow doesn’t bother me, but I believe a slight crop on the left (without any on right) to make the image perfectly square will elevate the image and make it more balanced, pinging @Pudelek: in case they may want to apply such a crop. Would support a square crop. —UnpetitproleX (Talk) 17:09, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose For daytime architectural photos of a popular tourist attraction without any travel restrictions, I'd expect higher image quality, at least better than an average phone camera. A 3500px wide image would be fine for wildlife and stuff. The sky seems splotchy at the top and there are some small black spots next to the tip of the tower. The composition is subjective (the trees and shadows may add depth) but not outstanding in my opinion. dllu (talk) 18:41, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Looks distorted because the viewpoint is too close to the building --Uoaei1 (talk) 12:35, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose As above. Alvesgaspar (talk) 15:01, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment Alvesgaspar and Uoaei1: As I've explained in previous nominations with similiar photos, nothing here is distorted or over-corrected. This was shot with a high quality PC-E 19mm tilt-shift lens precisely to render the verticals correctly and avoid the converging-lines distortion a tilted camera would produce. The perspective you see is the geometrically accurate one.
My goal was a high-quality architectural shot in beautiful light that puts the building clearly at its center. The SANAA building stands in a very urban setting, so a more distant viewpoint would inevitably pull in distracting elements such as street lamps, the road, trees and residential buildings. The close corner perspective was a deliberate choice to keep the focus on the architecture. It also nicely emphasises the cirrocumulus clouds, which add to the morning atmosphere.
I'm always a little surprised that slightly bolder perspectives keep meeting resistance - a dynamic viewpoint shouldn't be mistaken for a distorted one. --Tuxyso (talk) 17:34, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment There is no such thing as a "geometrically accurate perspective". Yes, those lines are vertical but we see them as converging when we look up at the building. If we look straight ahead at a close distance, we often won't be able to see it all. Please understand these negative opinions as an expression of an aesthetical feeling, not as a technical evaluation. In other words as a way of saying "this doesn't look natural". Anyway, many people here are aware of my depp deslike of the present fashion of correcting all verticals. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 18:10, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- I fully respect your standpoint. As always with photos - often a matter of personal taste. Nonetheless: I have not corrected the verticals but only put the camera into horizontal position and shifted the image circle. For those who prefer a less dynamic viewpoint I have these shots File:SANAA-Gebäude-Morgenlicht-2026-03.jpg and File:SANAA-Gebäude-Morgenlicht-2026-02.jpg but finally I deciced to nominate this one here. Tuxyso (talk) 18:37, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- To be honest I can understand Alvesgaspar's comments. When using a super wide shift lens, e.g. with a Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Shift, I generally prefer to just take a flat frontal view like File:Hallidie Building in San Francisco dllu.jpg rather than a really dynamic corner view for that reason. Here, I also prefer the relatively "boring" view of File:SANAA-Gebäude-Morgenlicht-2026-02.jpg. As a personal rule of thumb (just for my own taste rather than as a general recommendation), when I do take photos of corner views of cuboid-shaped buildings, I try to prevent the corner from approaching an acute angle less than 90 degrees, although I sometimes do break this rule myself, e.g. in File:Hillman Library, exterior (brighter).jpg. Sometimes I also leave the verticals slightly uncorrected on purpose, e.g. File:Jackson Tower, Portland at dusk.jpg. As an extremely minor nitpick, in the 2026-02 image, there's a very slight bit of chromatic aberrations and barrel distortion, which are generally super annoying to correct with shift lenses. Some newer, super expensive shift lenses, like the Fujifilm GF 30mm f/5.6 TS, will save the shift amount in the metadata, so that software can correct for these. P.S. the legendary Nikkor 19mm f/4 PC-E has long been one of my dream lenses. It is wonderful to see people contributing to Commons with such high end gear. dllu (talk) 20:29, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your detailed background information, I really appreciate it. Due to your hint I have corrected CA on 02 (the correction in LR was just deactivated). The PC-E 19mm is a stunning lens - had a chance to get it used. It is not yet available new. --Tuxyso (talk) 21:43, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

As already stated the close view point is also to get maxium attention on the building (which won an architecture prize) without and distractions. Would you prefer one of the two other photos? —Tuxyso (talk) 08:37, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Weak support Not 100% convinced (agree with dllu’s comment on ultra-wide-angle photos of architecture), but the perspective is valid (not distorted – it’s just natural perspective) and the building interesting. Weak oppose
- Sorry, I can't see any sign of CA at all. Cmao20 (talk) 10:55, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment I can zoom in to 200% and scroll around in the top right corner but I cannot see any of the claimed artifacts. Also I can't make out any of the claimed chromatic aberrations in the mountains. Granada (talk) 12:06, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Indeed. I have noticed this forum growing rather paranoid about CA lately. In the past I've nominated pictures that do have slight chromatic aberrations but are extremely high resolution and otherwise good quality, and they have passed without opposition; lately I've seen opposes for CA that is so minor that I genuinely cannot see any evidence of it whatever. Perhaps standards are changing...I'd appreciate a note to show where this has been noticed. Cmao20 (talk) 12:29, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for nomination! I'm a bit confused about the CA and artefact claims as well. I can't see anything drastic myself. I've definitely had worse examples of CA in some of my other pictures, and tbh I don't personally feel too bothered about a little bit of CA. I think it's quite natural thing, that I sometimes fix a bit if I feel like it.
The artefacts, I can't seem to find them on my screen. Surely they can't be that bad, because... uh?The other thing I can address a bit: Yeah, I honestly have a habit of downscaling, and it's purely my preference how I like to view my images when at 100%. I don't want to downscale much, but that's how I like to look at them. (I'm not so interested in evaluating how perfect the lenses are at every situation, or how well camera bodies translate the lens qualities into pixel clusters of varying quality at different corners of image at the full size. Instead, at 100% I like the eye to wander in the details of the landscape itself at that particular resolution, at the level of detail where everything worthy is still there identifiable, if that makes sense.) In short, I just want them to have just the appropriate amount of detail to be "perfect" for Wikipedia articles. The second reason is, i'm still a bit paranoid about where all my pictures might end up, so to ease my anxiety, I still like to have the original files and image sizes in my personal storage as a proof of original ownership. Greetings, --Ximonic (talk) 18:45, 25 June 2026 (UTC)- Found some artefact patches and removed them. Looked like different level of pixel noise. They were very faint atleast for me - I had to really look closely to find them. --Ximonic (talk) 19:01, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for dropping in to make improvements and talk about your photo, Ximonic. You are most welcome for the nomination. I can see the artefacts now that I compare the before and after, but agree that they were very faint indeed! Cmao20 (talk) 19:11, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Support Stunning view and likely a POTY finalist or even winner. There is a very slight CA but only visible at very high zoom, so it is negligible. But I've noticed that original was 6,720х4,480px. Is the photo is cropped or downscaled? Юрий Д.К. 13:18, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, agree. I have to go to 300% zoom to see anything that looks like colour fringing! Most of Ximonic's pictures seem to be cropped pretty extensively, often from larger panoramas. Cmao20 (talk) 16:02, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment Thanks for removing the multiple patches of artefacts.
Support now but I do not appreciate the accusatory tone of several editors here ("can’t see … CA at all", "cannot see … claimed artifacts … claimed CAs", "CA and artefact claims"), and elsewhere, as if I am making up the issues in the image(s) or that they don’t actually exist—and yet a moment later the artefacts not only appear but also get fixed (which is all I had asked for). CAs and artefacts are not hard to fix, CAs in fact are rather easy to remove especially when they’re minor.
My primary reason to change my vote from neutral to weak oppose originally, were the artefacts especially and less so the CAs, as I also noted in my original comment. I also don’t understand why an issue shouldn’t matter if it’s only visible at 100% (or more) zoom. It is a pretty standard practice at FPC to judge an image based on detail, sharpness, and indeed CAs and artefacts, at that level of zoom. --UnpetitproleX (Talk) 04:54, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- UnpetitproleX, I am not sure how 'I can't see any signs of CA at all' is accusatory. (I won't address the other instances you felt were accusations, because I didn't say them.) It was merely a statement of fact. I couldn't see any, because it had not occurred to me that I was supposed to zoom in to 300% to see it. I will be honest, I absolutely think an issue does not matter if it is only visible at 300% zoom. I would call it pixel peeping. It is irrelevant to artistic enjoyment of the photograph, irrelevant to realistic use cases of the photograph in Wikimedia projects, and irrelevant to any realistic use case of the photograph by any third party reuser. If it is a standard practice to judge an image at FPC based on CAs at more than 100% zoom, then it is in my opinion a wrong practice and ought to change. You are free to have a different opinion, and you may of course choose to oppose images for this reason. But I am also free to speak my mind, and I don't think my tone was (or is) hostile. I fully stand by my original comments - I can't see any signs of CA at all at any magnification that I personally believe it is reasonable to judge a photograph. Cmao20 (talk) 10:57, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- Im sorry but this is in fact a clear example of pixel peeping, one of the most notorious I've seen in almost 20 years experience on FPC. UnpetitproleX you don't even seem to care about the image resolution. I've to ask you to discontinue with this practice. It will just frustrate authors, reviewers and yourself, and if it makes a difference in the end, then we'll have more downsampling. Poco a poco (talk) 17:58, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, Poco, I'm glad you see it this way too. Cmao20 (talk) 18:16, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- Cmao20 I could see the multiple patches of artefacts (multiple as in more than one, patches as in portions of the image and just not some pixels) at less than 100% zoom and the CA at 100% zoom. Your personal inability to see them at less than 300% does not mean others can not. The accusations, now, of "pixel peeping" by you and Poco a poco, with whose image I pointed out similar issues though did not oppose since there were no patches of artefacts in it, are frankly offensive. I will continue to review nominations. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 03:02, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- UnpetitproleX, no, they're not offensive. Sorry but they're just not. You may feel offended by them but that does not make them offensive, sorry. I didn't ask you not to continue to review nominations so am unsure why you are acting like I did. You have a right to your opinion and you may oppose any and all of my nominations if you wish. But I have a right to point out that I think your opinion is bad and that criticising images for such miniscule technical failings (as opposed to more substantive issues such as composition, light, and quality at sensible zoom levels) is bad for the project and makes FPC worse. Please don't try to shut down my right to my opinions by calling politely-expressed viewpoints that happen to conflict with your own opinions 'offensive.' Cmao20 (talk) 05:32, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- I just don’t believe multiple large patches of visible artefacts are 'minuscule', and I’d be surprised if anyone thought so. You may believe me pointing out those patches are pixel peeping and "make FPC worse" but I don’t. Such accusations I do find offensive.
- UnpetitproleX (Talk) 05:46, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Well, it seems that everyone else did think so, as the picture did not pick up any criticism from any other voter and even the creator could barely see the issues, but alright, this discussion will not be productive. I wish you all the best even though I wish you would be willing to tolerate civil disagreement. Cmao20 (talk) 05:56, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don’t think everyone said the multiple large patches of visible artefacts were minuscule, only that the CAs were minor—which I also said—but we’re all allowed to draw our own conclusions. I’m just glad those patches were removed, a FP shouldn’t have such issues, even if the minor CAs are still there. I wish people would be less hostile to those pointing out issues and not accuse them of inventing those. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 07:39, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

- Missing geolocation main factor: No EXIF GPS and no recognised coordinate template found ({{Location}}, {{Object location}}, {{Coord}}, etc.). For place-based FPC subjects such as landscapes, architecture, interiors, aerials, monuments, city views, and venue documentation, reviewers normally expect coordinates or at least an estimated/object location. Comment Very pleasant lighting and color grading! This looks like something you would see as a header image in one of those high-class travel guides about historic wine regions in south-east Germany. Although I am usually sceptical about such wide aspect ratios, in this case it was a very good choice. However, categorization is not exactly great; could you add some more specific categories? --Aciarium ⚒ (talk) 20:25, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment This picture is in the category Category:Burg Windeck (Bühl), which is a sub-category of Ruins of medieval castles in Landkreis Rastatt, Castles in the Black Forest, Destroyed in Baden-Württemberg in the 16th century, Cultural heritage monuments in Bühl (Baden), Buildings in Bühl (Baden), Towers in Bühl (Baden), Landschaftsschutzgebiet Bühlertal. I now added the categories Restaurants in Bühl, June 2026 in Bühl, and Clouds and blue sky in Bühl. I Think, these 10 categories are enough categories to find the picture. --Llez (talk) 05:49, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Rendered at 80,000 × 80,000 pixels and downsampled using 8×8 Super-Sampling Anti-Aliasing (SSAA) to a 100-megapixel final image. C++ source code included. Comment The Mandelbrot set is an endless source of beauty and all we have to do is to choose among thousands of different images generated automatically (or by AI). This is not a critique just a realization that disturbs me a little. Could we compare this situation with the choice we make among the many different views nature has to offer? I feel it is not really the same thing and feel tempted to reject most of these images until something extraordinary comes up. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 19:40, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- No! Automatically generated (or artificially intelligent) is impossible! Only a HUMAN can do this! And yes, it's extraordinary, but it takes many hours and even days. Aokoroko (talk) 22:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- It is a matter of human taste to decide which view to choose, as well as choices in, say, the colour palette used. You can see here that Aokoroko has swept through over 100 different fractals from File:Mandelbrot Set Image 01.jpg to File:Mandelbrot Set Image 110.png before finally one was deemed worthy of nominating as an FP. dllu (talk) 10:29, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

Weak oppose as per cmao20, also the sharpness isn't great besides the very center, and the sky is grainy. There's a slightly noticeable amount of chroma noise on the tower itself in the shadow region. However, I do understand that it is difficult to get a shot of this Ukrainian landmark due to the war situation (and access to the port seems pretty tightly controlled otherwise too). dllu (talk) 18:22, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Info Here is a risky nomination I can't resist to, due to my fascination for the creations of Antonio Gaudi. I have included two pictures of the stairway of Casa Milá because I found it difficult to make justice to its beauty with a single one. Yes, I do love what the French call Art Nouveau and the Spanish Modernism. All by Alvesgaspar (talk) 21:13, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Support It is a beautiful building notwithstanding several technical flaws of the photographs (such as blown highlights, lack of sharpness, etc -- but you are no doubt already aware). The official regulations prohibit bringing a "professional camera" so probably we can't do much better than the Fujifilm X-T5 (although I am also disappointed in the X-T5, I thought it would be a lot better, but I checked your EXIF data and found your settings to be optimal for the situation). Overall, the harmonious textures and smooth curves are very nice. However, the regulations also mention that photography "requires special authorisation" and that the "Organization reserves the right to take legal action for the publication of any graphic, audiovisual or digital material of La Pedrera without prior authorization", which seems rather at odds with a free license for Commons. Would that be a problem? But I suppose Gaudi died 100 years ago and the copyright has expired so the architecture itself is public domain. dllu (talk) 23:12, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment. The nomination should probably be withdrawn and, I assume, the images deleted. "No photos, video and/or sound recordings may be made or broadcast from the Basilica for commercial, advertising or dissemination (my emphasis) purposes without written authorisation in advance from the Foundation" Charlesjsharp (talk) 09:23, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- The rules you cite probably apply to the Sagrada Familia basilica, not Casa Milá. The norms concerning Casa Milá are much more ambiguous. By the way, there are hundreds of photos of this building in Commons.-- Alvesgaspar (talk) 09:49, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- I think these are the rules of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera which runs the place. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:42, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- In my understanding (but I'm not familiar with Spanish law), Gaudi and the other artists who worked here have been dead long enough for their work to be public domain, and the organization operating this place can claim whatever they want, they have no legal basis to restrain the use of any pictures taken here. A lot of organizations running heritage buildings have similar "rules" (in France, the RMN even claims it owns copyright on Renaissance paintings), but thankfully, there are laws and the simple fact that some organization says you can't do something doesn't make it true. --Benji 08:11, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Support I think the atmosphere of the photos, and the presentation as a diptych, is artistic and elegant. I hope the pictures do not have to be deleted. I won't comment on that, as it is out of scope for what I'm judging here. Cmao20 (talk) 18:19, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose -- Per Mile, I think one photo with better postprocessing would do the job. Now it's kinda unappealing, mostly because of the colors. And I had to think to figure out that it was the same staircase from above and below. It's not that obvious. -- Krigore (talk) 09:45, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose -- Per Mile and Krigore, the technical quality of this picture is not good enough (although I understand it is difficult to do better in a crowded place with restrictions on photography), the result is not appealing and I don't think making one file out of the two pictures was a good idea. --Benji 08:11, 27 June 2026 (UTC)No doubt that the place offers a bunch of possible FPs but I don't think that these images illustrate the beuty of the place. I agree that the images are not appealing (porbably not the nicest motives), look overporocessed and the light management is not the best either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poco a poco (talk • contribs) 08:24, 27 June 2026 (UTC) Ineligible to vote: unsigned vote --Wilfredor (talk) 22:42, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Info Mediterranean moray (Muraena helena) with a prey, Catania, Sicily, Italy. Mediterranean moray or Roman eel (Muraena helena) is a fish of the moray eel family. It has a long eel-like body and is found in coastal waters of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. It prefers rocky bottoms and lives in depths of from 5 to 80 meters (16.5 to 264 feet). It is a solitary and territorial species. This moray spends most of the day in cavities and clefts between rocks and is more active at night. It hunts fish, crayfish and cephalopods, but also feeds on dead animals. A bite with its long and sharp-pointed teeth can be dangerous to humans also due to the mildly toxic slime of its skin. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 21:40, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Request No depicts (P180) statement, This is the structured-data equivalent of categories: it tells other Wikimedia projects, search engines, and reuse tools what the image is of. Add at least one depicts entry on the file page, for example the Wikidata item for the main subject --Wilfredor (talk) 02:44, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
- I expect that somewhen our tools get a bit more intelligent with help of AI and I don't need to fill out additional 5 more fields than I do now. For example, if I upload the image to iNaturalist it will tell mostly what is the species depicted on the image. Anything to say about the image? Poco a poco (talk) 08:12, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Support The image itself is excellent—a lovely feeding moment, with proper focus and quality suitable for an underwater shot. Your comment has made me think about trying to make adding this structured data easier. For now, if you check the FPC talk page, you’ll see a tool I developed that helps identify these details when creating a new nomination. Wilfredor (talk) 13:44, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your feedback, Wilfredor. The tool tells you if something could be improved. Right now I feel like a lot of people here spend their precious time in tasks that could be easily automated (e.g. Italy photographs taken on 2025-07-06, Taken with Canon EOS R5 Mark II or the main subject on the image). I managed to gather enough motivation to upload a bunch of images to Commons after some years, but I've to say that the time required for that is higher and higher especially to add structured data for Wikidata. Wenn will pay that off? Poco a poco (talk) 15:48, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- I understand your point but sometimes add structure information is almost like add a category. That said, Wikimedia Commons seems like a system frozen in time, built on the premise that if it works, it is better not to touch it. It feels like a page from the 90s, both aesthetically and in terms of how difficult it is to upload and document an image. Editing Wikipedia has also become so complex that one needs to take a course on how to edit. I agree that we spend our time here, but personally, I still hope that what we do can be used educationally. Wilfredor (talk) 22:47, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Weak support Excellent composition. Again I wonder why NASA, spending billions for its missions, seems to try to save a few 100 $$ when it comes to photographic gear – they used a rather mediocre lens here, there is very obvious coma at the bigger stars in the outer frame, and just using one of the excellent lenses we have today would have eliminated it. Astrophotographers are often very picky about coma and know exactly which lenses are the best for taking photos of stars. – Aristeas (talk) 08:25, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

- Aristeas’s arguments have convinced me not to keep this support. I think I was too influenced by rhe fact that this is taken by a famous portrait photographer. It isn’t an outstanding example of his work. Cmao20 (talk) 17:36, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose I’m very sorry, but while Laurence Olivier is an excellent actor, this photo doesn’t do him justice. Nothing is really sharp, the detail resolution is poor, it almost looks like upscaled, and there are also CAs. Furthermore IMHO the lighting is rather shallow and boring (but this is a matter of taste, of course). – Aristeas (talk) 08:34, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- This is an argentic picture, not digital. Yann (talk) 10:19, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for the hint, but film photography can be sharp, too. I would not object if this was a photo from some event with moving people, but it is a simple portrait photo, the subject is not moving, and such photos were sharper in 1972, too, if the photographer did it right and used a decent camera and a decent lens. If the photo had an interesting composition, an impressive look or some other aspect which makes it outstanding, I would say that’s more important. But here I only see a mediocre photo with the composition of a passport photograph and the quality of a passport photograph, so I take the liberty to oppose. Of course everybody can see things different and support it. – Aristeas (talk) 16:16, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I understand this picture is 16 years old, but its sharpness is still too low IMO, sorry. Not an outstanding composition but that could be acceptable given this was taken from a plane. What happened to the sky ? --Benji 08:39, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Sky is posterized, probably the result of a too agressive processing. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 16:17, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, it looked great in thumbnnail and it is a fantastic composition that would probably do well in a suitable Commons Photography Challenge, but at full size the unsharpness and artefacts associated with iPhone photos are apparent. Cmao20 (talk) 15:38, 29 June 2026 (UTC)- Weak
Support Could be sharper, but wow is there. The plane makes the difference between an ordinary snapshot, a carefully planned picture. Yann (talk) 21:55, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Weak oppose Sorry, but I have to agree with Cmao20. That’s a pity because the composition is indeed great. But the detail resolution of the arch is low and it looks artificially. It’s possible that this is not only due to the limits of the phone camera, but that compression has further reduced the quality. So if this photo was taken with strong/medium compression settings, you could try if reducing the compression (or even better: shooting in the raw image format – yes, that’s possible with iPhones) increases the quality of your photos substantially. – Aristeas (talk) 15:29, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Info Nests of Sociable weaver on an Acacia tree in the Kalahari Desert of Namibia. Endemic to the arid regions of southern Africa, the sociable weaver is the only bird species known to construct such massive, permanent communal nests. These structures can house hundreds of individual birds in separate nesting chambers beneath a thick thatched roof, providing insulation against the extreme temperatures of the Namibian environment. The nests may remain in use for many decades, with successive generations continuously expanding and maintaining them. Their remarkable architecture also provides shelter for numerous other bird species and small animals, making them an important component of the local ecosystem.

Oppose Focus is only at the plane closest to the camera, all the rest is blurred. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 16:14, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
Neutral Can't make my mind up on this. I find it appealing and interesting at full size but I can't deny that we would usually expect a wider depth of field for this kind of shot. Cmao20 (talk) 15:42, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Support Fascinating photo of a bee collecting pollen. Agree that we could want more depth of field. However considering that we are deep into the macro range here and that therefore DoF is expected to be very thin, and considering also that this is an “action” shot with the bee in motion I can’t grouch here. Furthermore with larger animals (and people) we are used to photos where the DoF covers only the head or even only the eye. So we can also say it’s just appropriate that only the head of the bee is in focus. – Aristeas (talk) 15:41, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Description and categorization problem. Gallery could be improved -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:29, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, I recognise the building but I am not normally a fan of these kinds of views, it feels more like a gimmick than an outstanding composition to me. This is a very subjective opinion and I can absolutely understand why others might see this as FP. Also agree with Basile's points about proper documentation. Cmao20 (talk) 15:47, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Neutral - I really like the style of this photo, but in my opinion the good effect is spoiled by the vignetting visible in the corners. - Krigore (talk)
Weak support Something new and fresh (at least for FPC). The style adds a touch of mystery, and while such a photo does not work as a documentation of the building, it certainly succeeds in making people curious and making us reflect about the way we see buildings etc. (Making us think about how we see reality is one of the most important virtues of photography.) Agree, of course, that description and categories call for improvements. Have taken the liberty to change the gallery link: this one would certainly belong to the ‘Photo techniques’ gallery pages. – Aristeas (talk) 15:53, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
Support I think this composition is well-suited for FP. It’s a wonderful addition to our FP collection. However, the description and categorization definitely need to be revised. The description should make it clearer where the droplets can be seen, in terms of reflections, etc. The same applies to the categorization. -- XRay 💬 10:06, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
Neutral It's a work of art, but sorry, I don't think it's FP material on Commons. --Mounir TOUZRI (talk) 09:31, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Comment @ Tuxyso I would suggest to make own Template for this lens, with some words of description, and add it on file. Since lens is more special than others. So photo of lens + some description what is so special. --Mile (talk) 15:41, 30 June 2026 (UTC) p.S. For photo, compo would be much better if right, dark tree would be a bit more seperated from building, but not erased since we have on left tree too.

Info The engraving was produced when the church was built in 1926. Its frame has dimensions of around 60 x 30 cm. In Orthodox Christianity, there's a niche above the main entrance of the church with an artwork depicting the patron saint. The artwork is most commonly a fresco, sometimes it may be a mosaic, and this is a very rare example where it is an engraved work. All by me. -- Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 22:09, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Quite small (barely clears the 2 megapixel minimum) and visibly scratched - could do with restoration. I have great distaste for how this picture sanitises this murderer's image and makes him look imposing rather than horrifying, but that does not factor into my vote, as a picture may be featured as a great example of propaganda for an evil regime. Cmao20 (talk) 23:54, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose per Cmao20 --Ezarateesteban 17:15, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Although I grew up in East Germany and experienced first-hand how Lenin was officially portrayed, I have deliberately separated those experiences from my assessment. Regardless of the well-documented historical legacy of one-party rule, political repression and revolutionary violence under his leadership, historical portraits of controversial figures certainly deserve FP status when they meet the required standard. This file, however, only just exceeds the minimum resolution and still contains visible scratches and other age-related defects. A careful restoration would considerably strengthen the nomination. In its present state, I do not think it reaches FP quality. -- Radomianin (talk) 20:10, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I'd expect that for Times Square, which is basically the most photographed square in the world ever, it should be possible to source a photo of better technical quality than a cellphone capture. Due to being taken with a cellphone, it is grainy, has wormy AI denoise artifacts typical of modern smartphones, sharpening halos around high-contrast edges, etc. Slightly lower technical quality would have been acceptable if it were one of your awesome aerial photos, but I really think we can do better for a popular tourist perspective on the ground. Also, I hate being one of those "perspective correction" guys, but this picture could use some of it, and also the center of the image is tilted counterclockwise a little bit. dllu (talk) 17:05, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Info Blue triggerfish (Pseudobalistes fuscus), Nosy Antanimora, Madagascar. This species is a reef-associated species as it prefers coastal waters, shallow lagoons and seaward reefs, at 30–50 metres (98–164 ft) of depth and widespread in the Tropical Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea to South Africa, Society Islands, southern Japan, Australia and New Caledonia. This fish can reach a length of 55 centimetres (22 in) and is known for its aggressiveness and many divers choose to stay away from them, as they bite often. This triggerfish, like most other triggerfish, eats shellfish, small crustaceans, and other bottom-dwelling invertebrae. Note: there are no FPs on Commons of the genus Pseudobalistes, that comprises 3 species. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 22:22, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Weak support Excellent, per Granada. It’s just a pity that NASA doesn’t care at all about reasonable post-processing. There are obvious lateral CAs which could be fixed by checking a single option in the raw image converter. That would be done on earth, of course, so it’s no extra work for the astronaut. – Aristeas (talk) 16:02, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
Weak support Excellent documentary image. However, I agree with Aristeas that visible lateral chromatic aberrations remain and could likely have been corrected during RAW processing. A minor technical flaw preventing full support. -- Radomianin (talk) 20:24, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Weak support Nice, striking use of light trails, however there are some minor technical flaws - perspective correction would be appreciated, and the highlights have IMO been pulled back too far, leaving them a muddy grey instead of a brilliant white. There is no point trying to recover detail in highlights when there is no detail to be recovered. Also some small CAs but those are broadly irrelevant to my review. Overall FP but improvements could be made IMO. Cmao20 (talk) 12:05, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Neutral It's such a beautiful photo! It's a shame that the execution has some noticeable flaws. The vertical lines aren't even close to being straight (i.e. power pole on the right), and the highlights are way too overexposed. -- XRay 💬 10:09, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Support Unlike most JWST images that have been brought to FCP, this time there is no sign of extraordinary resolution. In fact, this pic doesn't even meet the minimum 2 million pixels requirement (I ignore that for obvious reasons), but to my eyes, it still comes across as an FP. -- IamMM (talk) 16:18, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
Comment Indeed impressive, but they are higher resolution version at the source. Yann (talk) 16:52, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose The JWST is producing lots of near-infrared photos of galaxies and although beautiful, I don't think this one is particularly special in terms of scientific interest or composition, so this does not outweigh the low resolution to me, sorry. Please note that although the source appears to have higher resolution versions, these are actually (badly) upscaled versions for use as computer wallpapers, and preserve no extra detail; they therefore should not be uploaded over the top of this. The resolution of the original, fullsize TIFF file is 1060*1288, same as the current Commons version. Cmao20 (talk) 23:49, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

Neutral Although this is a difficult underwater capture and a valuable documentary image, the composition is quite straightforward and doesn't have the "wow" factor needed for FP (IMO). --Olfa Yakoubi -ألفة يعقوبي (talk) 20:44, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- I chose the compo, or rather POV, Olfa Yakoubi -ألفة يعقوبي that is optimal to have sharpness in the biggest possible area of the motif (although it has been critized below somehow) Poco a poco (talk) 22:22, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Judged purely from a photographic perspective, this image does not reach FP level for me: apart from the eyes, nothing is really sharp on the relatively flat fish, the background shows clearly visible noise, and even though it is apparently a rare fish, I find the visual impact of the subject rather uninteresting. --Tuxyso (talk) 20:48, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- Tuxyso: I've denoised the water and removed all dust I saw. So, that should be adressed now. To my understanding and experience I see a sharp body and a very sharp eye / mouth (which is the most important area). The tail is rather unsharp, because it was moving. It's wildlife and an underwater shot I'm sometimes not sure what the expectation might be. Yeah, probably not the most spectacular fish you'll find out there, though. Poco a poco (talk) 22:22, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
- From my perspective, although this is a clear FP, I don't find it as interesting as many of your underwater photos, and I honestly think it's because of the plain blue background. Of course, the sea is blue, so this is inevitable for a large number of underwater shots...but it means that although this picture is a great ID shot for a wikibox, it's maybe not an outstanding composition because there's not as much going on as usual. Cmao20 (talk) 13:54, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- I still think this reaches FP level. The composition is simple, but here that simplicity works well, it gives a clean full-body view, good separation, and strong encyclopedic value for a genus that still has no FPs on Commons. In underwater wildlife photography, a plain blue background and some softness in the moving tail are not major drawbacks to me when the eye and head and most of the body are well rendered. --Wilfredor (talk) 17:54, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments, Cmao20 and Wilfredor. I also believe that it deserves the star (specially in terms of sharpness and originality added to underwater difficulty pus) and therefore I'll keep this nom. I understand, that the compo is simple and this isn't the most appealing fish species you can see, therefore I understand some concerns. Poco a poco (talk) 19:42, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I know that you probably have very little time to plan a careful composition when shooting a photo like this, presumably from a plane or a helicopter since one would obviously not be allowed to use a drone in these circumstances. But that notwithstanding, I think the obvious tilt and the somewhat arbitrary crop make this feel too much like a snapshot. It is a good contribution to the project but I am not convinced it is FP. - @Poco a poco Unfortunately, the lines will not meet in a single point regardless of the crop, since the beach line is curved. But I agree that the right and bottom crop could have been composed more carefully. I hope my photographic abilities have improved at least bit in the last decade ;-)

Oppose. Watermarked at bootom right -- George Chernilevsky talk 19:05, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- It's so tiny, I don't think it detracts from the image at all. It's only discouraged, not disallowed. I think it's acceptable here LetmeEditit (talk) 20:23, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- It is tiny, but I disagree, in a FP it would be unacceptable imo. But this image was dedicated to public domain by the author, so removing the watermark will be completely uncontroversial. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 23:08, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose The watermark should be removed, but I also note that this picture is 96 megapixels even though the native resolution of the camera is 36 megapixels. I see no signs that this picture would be composed of multiple frames so I assume massive upsampling which I don't really like to see. Cmao20 (talk) 00:26, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Watermark, upsampling. Yann (talk) 07:54, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, LetmeEditit, it is a nice image but upscaling is not OK. Watermark may be removed, but I see no sense here as the image has been upscaled. Upscaling doesn't make a photo better in quality. Just more MBs and pixels. Blurred bird will stay blurred. Would support original if the author will upload it. Юрий Д.К. 12:13, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, this is an intriguing image and a nice find, but upscaling is useless and misleading, and the signature would have to be removed. – Aristeas (talk) 18:50, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
I withdraw my nomination I still think the watermark is fine. I don't know much about upscaling, so I thought it was no big deal, but looks like I was wrong. Now I know it's something people care about, I'll look out for it in the future. Thanks to everyone for pointing it out! LetmeEditit (talk) 16:18, 11 July 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Sorry, not a rare sample and I'm not that impressed by the cut out and stick on a black background approach especially when it leaves such rough, jagged edges. Cmao20 (talk) 23:59, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
