President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is generally lionized as one of the great American presidents, having been elected an unprecedented four times and seeing the nation through the Great Depression and the Second World War, as well as creating some of the most enduring features of the modern welfare state. But was FDR really a hero of the people, or did his policies irrevocably damage the civil liberties and individual freedoms of American citizens? Matt Kibbe is joined by David T. Beito, author of the new book \u201cThe New Deal\u2019s War on the Bill of Rights<\/a>,\u201d to discuss FDR\u2019s enthusiasm for internment camps for Japanese-Americans, domestic surveillance, and homophobic witch hunts. He coauthored Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto (HarperCollins 2010). Kibbe has appeared frequently on national television, including FOX News, HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, CNN, MSNBC, and PBS. Before launching FreedomWorks, Kibbe served as a congressional Chief of Staff and House Budget Committee Associate. He was also Budget Director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Senior Economist for the RNC under Lee Atwater. Kibbe did graduate work in economics at George Mason University and received his B.A. in economics from Grove City College.
